The Venue

We’ve chosen to host our wedding at the Credo, near Interlaken. The venue has special meaning to both Silvia and Ed, and we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.

Our venue has enough bedrooms for all guests and we have exclusive usage, so there’s no need to find accommodation elsewhere. Prices will be about 60 CHF per person per night during the wedding weekend.

The Credo is based in Wilderswil, a charming village two miles from nearby Interlaken and in the centre of the world-famous Jungfrau region with its renowned mountains and beautiful scenery. Situated overlooking the wide valley is the special house, Credo (Latin for “I believe”). Its charming castle-like architecture is evident throughout the house and offers a distinctive and warm atmosphere for up to 120 guests.

Credo offers a spectacular panoramic view that stretches from the enduring glaciers of the Jungfrau to the steel blue waters of lake Brienz.

The Credo Castle lies on the chain of hills called the Kleinen Rugen, and is situated at the edge of Wilderswil, the village that serves as a point of entry to the Jungfrau region of the Bernese Oberland. We want our guests to treasure both the remarkable quiet of the locale, and the cosmopolitan city of Interlaken.

For the weekend of Friday 26th January 2024 to Sunday 28th January 2024 we have exclusive use of the Credo with all bedrooms and meeting rooms available for our wedding. As a guest house the Credo also has good availability for the few days before and the week after our wedding, so feel free to make a holiday of it and stay on a bit the Bernese Oberland and Jungfrau region.

Room Allocations

In total there’s 45 bedrooms, with sleeping capacity for 150, made up of a combination of singles, doubles, twins, and large family rooms. During the RSVP we’ll arrange allocations.

Public prices are listed on the Credo website, however for the wedding weekend when we have exclusive usage prices are 60 CHF per person per night.

Transportation

We really want you to be able to join us, so please let us know if we can give you any advice to help with transportation arrangements. The trains in Switzerland are a lot more reliable than England!

For trains, the mainline station is Interlaken and the local train line station is Wilderswil. The venue has minibuses so you can be picked-up from the station and avoid needing a taxi or walking up the hill. For reference the train from Zurich (and Airport) takes 2 hours, and there is a direct train from both the Airport aswell as Zurich Hauptbahnhof. The direct airport trains are at 07:45, 10:45, 12:45, 14:45, 16:45 or 18:45, whereas trains involving a connection continue later in the evening and are also available inbetween the direct airport trains. Trains are also available from Basel as well.

For flights, Zurich airport has the best availability. Swiss have seven flights a day from London Heathrow, and BA have six a day. There is also currently a Swiss Air flight from Bristol on Monday/Wednesday/Friday during the summer schedule, however the winter schedule for Swiss Air flights from Bristol reduces to Saturdays only. There are Swiss flights in winter from Birmingham on Sunday/Monday/Thursday/Friday if that works better for you than Heathrow. Basel airport could also be an option, however there’s not as many flights as Zurich and the normal Easyjet Bristol to Basel flight unfortunately is paused between 5th January and 9th February. Geneva is the last option, and there’s daily Easyjet flights from Bristol, however the train will be 3 hours and involves changing in Bern.

Alternative Accommodation

We really would love it if stay with us in the Credo Schloss, as it would be fantastic if guests get to know each other better over the weekend. As the Weekend Plan says, there’s going to be both activities and freetime over the weekend, and the exclusive usage roomrate prices are very reasonable. However we’re not going to force you to stay with, so if you really want to stay in a more expensive posh hotel down in Interlaken then Hotel Royal St Georges Interlaken (MGallery Accor) and Hotel Interlaken (Independent) are both 4-star superior.

Surrounding Area

Whilst you’re coming for our wedding, the area also offers the chance to go hiking, cycling, climbing, swimming, strolling, and much more. Ed and Silvia have both been here, finding that it was a good starting point for sports and other activities.

As we say on the Weekend Plan, whilst we’ve listed departures on Sunday, the Credo has plenty of capacity as a guest house for the days before and the week after our wedding. So after the main event of our wedding, here’s a bit of tourist information about what you might like to do in the Interlaken area…

Click to read more tourist information about Interlaken area.

Around Interlaken you could look forward to a varied holiday in one of most liked Swiss resorts, on the turquoise Lake Brienz, on the deep blue Lake Thun or in the idyllic Diemtigtal Nature Park. In the Interlaken holiday region, an unforgettable panorama awaits you with a view of the imposing mountains with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. At all times of year it’s beautiful to experience the splendour of flowers in spring, the eventful summer, the colourful autumn or the atmospheric winter in the heart of Switzerland.

Winter in the Interlaken region is incredibly varied. Interlaken is much more than a classic ski destination. The immediate vicinity offers a wide range of different winter activities. So aswell as skiing, you can alternatively go snowshoeing. All the excursion destinations can be reached quickly and easily and are close together, so you can still arrange to meet up for lunch at the Berghaus if doing different things. Come and experience the atmospheric winter scenery, which offers much more than “just” snow. That makes Interlaken an exciting destination for your winter holiday, whether or not your plans involve snow.

Many winter hiking trails and walking trails are also accessible without snow and are a real pleasure. In the shadier valleys, temperatures are low throughout the winter. The surrounding area is transformed into a fantastic ice and water world. Glittering snow crystals hang in the icy fir branches, playful ice formations form between the stones of the frozen streams. Along the way there are quiet benches that invite you to a winter picnic.

Whilst in the area you can enjoy the panorama with the most beautiful view of lakes and mountains, visit unique excursion destinations, discover the number one destination for adventure sports in Europe, and experience Switzerland with its traditions and customs in one place.

On the lakeshore you look over the blue water surface to the snow-covered mountain peaks of the Bernese Oberland. The various mountain railways take you up to the summit quickly and easily where you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view and snap the perfect souvenir photo. The imposing triumvirate of Switzerland – the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – can be seen from almost all angles of the Interlaken region. There’s also easily accessible and well-maintained hiking trails where on a hike you would spot chamois, marmots, or ibexes, however perhaps less so much hiking in winter.

Although our wedding is in a castle like building, there are also five actual castles on Lake Thun. Thun Castle towers high above the city and boasts an enchanting panoramic view. Further down, directly on the lake, stands the picturesque Schadau Castle in the middle of the colourful Schadau Park. On the right bank of Lake Thun you will find Hünegg Castle and Oberhofen Castle. Both with a spectacular view of Lake Thun and the mountains of the Bernese Oberland. Just opposite in the Spiez Bay lies Spiez Castle, surrounded by magnificent vineyards. They’re open to visitors where you can learn the turbulent history of these castles and their inhabitants and enjoy the atmosphere.

If you do want to make a holiday of it, then in the holiday region there’s options for both action-packed, active, or more leisurely, and with and without snow: rapid descents on the ski slopes or on the toboggan runs (great fun and even Ed can manage it!), winter hikes through atmospheric nature, ski tours, mountain experiences by moonlight, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing experiences as well as ice skating.

There really is a large selection of winter experiences in the smallest of spaces. It will be beautiful winter nature regardless of the snow situation and weather. There’s Mountains, lakes/water world and wintry city flair, and aswell as kayak tours in winter on the mirror-smooth Lake Brienz, there’s also numerous charming winter excursions to natural places with quick accessibility and short distances to many of the excursion destinations.

In the wintry region of Interlaken, the snow will have gently wrapped the mountains in a white, soft winter dress. The alpine landscapes, the dense forests and the higher, idyllic villages will be transformed into an inspiring winter landscape. Nature is ready for you and your favorite activities: winter hikes, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing experiences, winter kayaking, tobogganing or skiing days.

Whilst our wedding photographs will be lovely with you in them, you can also snap unforgettable souvenir photos in the area. In the middle of the Bernese Oberland, in the heart of Switzerland, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz are very quiet and atmospheric. The snow-covered mountain peaks are reflected in it on clear days and offer you the perfect backdrop for your first atmospheric winter photo in the heart of Switzerland. You can capture even more mood with your camera on cloudy days. Then fine bands of clouds nestle along the mountain slopes around the lakes. The thin clouds of fog get stuck in the frozen forests and, in combination with the blue water and the snow-covered peaks, make for a grandiose photo motif.

If it does snow, then there is silence in nature as the snow dampens all noise to a minimum. Only the crunch under your feet and your breath, which condenses in the cold air, can be perceived. Equipped with winter shoes or even snowshoes, you trudge along well-groomed winter hiking trails or through untouched nature along signposted snowshoe routes. In some places, the landscape is interrupted by cross-country ski trails that nestle discreetly into the terrain. Decide for yourself whether you want to move through the enchanting winter nature on cross-country skis or on foot. The Axalp snow sports area, the Lombachalp, the Niederhorn, the Stockhorn or Aeschi with the Suldtal will make your winter activity an unforgettable experience.

As well as by day, you can also choose to experience the silence of winter nature at night. From mid-December to mid-March, star sledging at night is offered on the Niederhorn in addition to tobogganing fun during the day. Marvel at the overwhelming sea of lights created by the illuminated villages in the valley that adorn the shores of the magically resting Lake Thun. The moonlight illuminates the mountains and shows you the way on your sleigh ride. Up here you are very close to the sky and the stars. Experience the magic of a winter’s night. The Interlaken holiday region has a selection of mountain experiences in store for you.
